For decades, Mr. Purcell has been a fierce advocate for those who have suffered a personal injury. He routinely holds negligent parties responsible, whether they are major corporations, manufacturers or individual defendants. He is credited with trying the first asbestos property damage action, obtaining a multimillion dollar verdict for his clients.
Mr. Purcell has built a reputation of obtaining more verdicts for victims of asbestos-related illnesses than any other attorney. His successes include securing a $6.25 million settlement for the family of a loved one who passed away from mesothelioma. In another case, Mr. Purcell obtained a more than $70 million jury verdict for a couple. The husband had been diagnosed with a fatal lung cancer following his 26 years of work aboard submarines for the U.S. Navy.
As a testament to his achievements, Mr. Purcell has been named in The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100; he has earned the highest rating possible of AV Preeminent* from Martindale-Hubbell; in 2012, Lawdragon selected him for its Top 500 Attorneys List; and Pepperdine University School of Law presented him with the Distinguished Alumni Award.
Mr. Purcell was admitted to The State Bar of California in 1984, the District of Columbia in 1985, and he is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts of California, the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
