SUMMARY
As special counsel to Carroll & OÂ’Dea, Michael OÂ’Dea is dedicated to representing clients throughout Australia. He focuses his practice on handling cases that involve the following matters: wills law, elder law, trusts and estates law, guardianship and conservatorship law, tax law, libel, slander and defamation law, nonprofit and charitable organizations law, religious institutions law, probate law and private client law.
Planning for the terms of an estate is an important part of getting peace of mind. It can also help people avoid legal battles among family members. Having the right legal documents in place can ensure that assets are properly distributed, a decedentÂ’s wishes are met and survivors are properly cared for following a death.
A trained mediator and experienced arbitrator, Mr. OÂ’Dea has spent more than 50 years helping people organize their affairs. Whether he is taking into account the tax consequences of estate planning or establishing a guardian for someone with special needs, Mr. OÂ’Dea consistently prioritizes a clientÂ’s best interests. Once managing partner of Carroll & OÂ’Dea, he now serves as special counsel to the firm and provides sound legal advice to clients.
A published author and community activist, Mr. OÂ’Dea has been lauded for his work both in the courtroom and out. Among his achievements include receiving the North Sydney Citizen of the Year award; getting inducted into the Order of Australia in 1992; receiving the Edmund Rice Bicentenary Medal for the support he gave to the Mission of the Christian Brothers; getting appointed Knight Commander of the Papal Order of St. Gregory the Great; and the University of Notre Dame Australia instituted the Michael OÂ’Dea oration.
Mr. OÂ’Dea is admitted to practice before the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
